About Me

My name is Michelle.  I am 30 years old, married to Lanny, a Vietnam war baby, mother to Angelica, our 5 year old daughter who was brought to us through a Guatemala adoption in 2003.  We are int he process of number 2.   I am an animal lover with 2 cats, 3 dogs and the newest addition our 2 rats.  I like to think outside of the box and have an open mind in every aspect of my life.  I’ve been told by many that “things are in constant change over at your house” and I like it this way.

Lanny and I met when I was 16 and he was 23.  I was working in a sandwich shop and he was the manager.  I always liked him but at the time I had a boyfriend and he seemed ‘too cool’ (or so he thought) to be interested in me and the very OBVIOUS, he was A LOT older than me.  I let it be known that I liked him when I turned 17 and we began ‘dating.’  Okay so he should be in jail and we are not the norm but hey IT WORKED OUT!  My mom was awesome and loved Lanny from the start and my dad, well ….that is another story…let just say he never knew.  We were married in 2000.  My mom was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer so we ‘hurried’ to the alter in Las Vegas (her favorite thing to do was gamble) and it was important for me to have her at my wedding since she was given 6 months.  When I turned 23 I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and did a 6 month round of Clomid followed by IUI’s with no success.   Having a bio child was never as important to us as having a family so it was only natural to go forward with adoption rather than more intense infertility treatments such as IVF or injections.  When I turned 24 we began pursuing adoption.  During the process my mom lost her battle with cancer and passed in 2002 (she lived for 2 yrs. following her diagnoses.) Our adoption began in Cambodia, moved to Vietnam after the closing of Cambodia, then it to closed and finally ended in Guatemala.  I began fostering in Antigua, Guatemala when Angelica was 7 months old due to the horrible condition of her orphanage, the ongoing political bull shit with the government and the Hague Treaty.  We came home 4 months later after almost bribing PGN with $$$ (they were busted the night before we had our appointment,) lots of tears and pleading in the office of a PGN official and a package of Hershey kisses later, he signed the paperwork and we were homeward bound 1 week later to be exact.

5 years later, we are now adding another child through Lanny’s birth country, Vietnam.  We have a referral and are holding out hope all works out and this little guy will become a part of our family in the very near future.
